Presented by our partner Vinyl — the AI meeting assistant built for accounting and bookkeeping firms.
Xero turned 20 the same week it filled Olympia London, and it celebrated the way every software company celebrates in 2026: by saying "agentic" from the main stage until the word lost all meaning.
We've been through the keynotes, the press releases and the practitioner reaction so you don't have to. Here's the full list of what was announced at Xerocon London on 8–9 July — and, more usefully, the three announcements that will actually change how your firm works, separated from the ones that exist mainly to look good on a jumbotron.
The 30-second version
Everything announced at Xerocon London 2026, in one list:
- JAX Auto Bank Reconciliation — JAX matches transactions to bank feeds in real time. Live now; complex cases (splitting one payment across sales and fees) coming soon.
- Smart Document Capture — JAX reads receipts, bills and invoices and extracts the data straight into Xero, auto-categorised through to reconciliation. Available now; bank statement extraction, auto-created transactions and VAT checking coming later.
- Xero Partner Hub evolution — live book health, work status and month-end readiness for your whole portfolio in one view, connected to tax and advisory. Available from October, along with automated document chasing (JAX flags transactions missing a receipt).
- XeroForce — a natural-language, no-code AI agent builder on Xero OS. Early access now, general availability later this year.
- Xero Ultra — a new top tier aimed at mid-market businesses outgrowing Xero, built on Syft multi-entity consolidation and advanced reporting. Available now in Australia; UK beta in autumn.
- Claude and Microsoft 365 Copilot integrations — query live Xero data from Claude (live globally, roughly 20,000 customers connected in the first 60 days) and from Excel, Word and PowerPoint via Copilot.
- Payment Follow Ups — JAX reads each customer's payment history and runs tailored collection plans, down to switching to SMS for clients who ignore email. Coming soon.
- Bill Protection (beta) — JAX inspects every bill before payment, flagging odd amounts, changed bank details and unfamiliar suppliers.
- Cash Flow Actions (beta) — JAX builds preventative cash flow plans: delay non-critical bills, protect payroll, bridge gaps.
- Xero Corporation Tax (UK) — the last missing UK tax type, in beta now, expected within a couple of months.
- The milestone: 5 million subscribers globally, 1.3 million in the UK.
Now the triage.
The three that actually matter
1. Auto Bank Reconciliation — the real headline, whatever the keynote said
Bank rec is the single most universal, most resented task in bookkeeping, and JAX now does it in real time as transactions hit the feed. This is the announcement with the shortest distance between demo and your actual Monday morning.
What it means for you: if it works as billed, the daily rec queue becomes a review queue. That changes how you price bookkeeping, how you staff it, and how quickly you spot problems — clean books daily rather than at month-end. The caveat is the word if: the messy cases that eat your time (one Stripe payout covering forty invoices and three fee lines) are still in the "coming soon" column. The plumbing that's live handles the straightforward matches — which, to be fair, is most of them.
When you'll actually get it: the core capability is live. Complex split-payment reconciliation has no date.
AU-NZ availability: Auto Bank Rec and Smart Document Capture are platform-level JAX features rather than region-locked products; rollout has been progressive across regions, so check your own file — and Xero's regional release notes — rather than trusting a keynote slide.
2. Xero Ultra — Australia got this one first, and it's a bigger strategic move than it looks
For once, an announcement where Australians aren't waiting eighteen months. Xero Ultra launched in Australia first, with the UK getting a beta in autumn. It bundles Syft multi-entity consolidation, Syft advanced reporting, targeted data restore and fast-track support into a tier pitched at businesses that have outgrown standard Xero but don't want the cost and pain of an ERP implementation.
What it means for you: every firm has those clients — the ones running five entities on five Xero files and a consolidation spreadsheet held together with hope. Ultra is Xero's answer to losing them to NetSuite or Sage Intacct, and it's your answer to keeping those engagements on a platform your team already knows. It's also, obviously, Xero's answer to extracting more revenue per subscriber — no pricing was trumpeted from the stage, which after the year the industry has had on price rises should make you at least raise an eyebrow. Watch the per-file economics before you migrate anyone.
When you'll actually get it: now, if you're in Australia.
AU-NZ availability: live in AU at launch. NZ timing wasn't specified — the stated sequence is Australia, then UK beta in autumn.
3. Smart Document Capture — Xero just walked into the OCR aisle
JAX now reads source documents and pushes the data straight into Xero — no separate app, no syncing, auto-categorised all the way to reconciliation. Xero's product chief Diya Jolly made the pitch explicitly against traditional OCR tools, which she argues copy text without understanding it.
What it means for you: if you're paying per-client for a document capture tool, the maths of your app stack just changed. Xero doing capture natively — and pulling supplier details into contacts, line items into bills, matches into the rec screen — is a direct shot at the Dext/Hubdoc-shaped line in your software budget. The incumbents will rightly point out that a v1 native feature rarely matches a decade-old specialist product on edge cases, foreign invoices and volume workflows. Both things can be true. Run it on a handful of real clients before you cancel anything.
When you'll actually get it: available now, with bank statement extraction, auto-created transactions and VAT checking to follow, and auto-fetch (proactively collecting documents rather than waiting for uploads) on the roadmap.
AU-NZ availability: as with Auto Bank Rec — platform-level JAX capability, progressive rollout across regions.
The rest, triaged
- XeroForce — a no-code agent builder where you describe a workflow in plain English ("email each client a P&L spreadsheet at month-end") and it assembles the agent, with human sign-off before anything sends. Genuinely interesting; also the most "wait and see" item on the list. Early access now, GA later this year. And yes, the profession noticed the name — the top-voted comment on AccountingWEB's coverage questioned whether "Xero Force" got enough thought in the naming meeting.
- Claude + Microsoft 365 Copilot integrations — being able to pull live Xero data into Excel, Word and PowerPoint without copy-paste is quietly one of the most practical things announced. Early practitioner reviews of the Claude connector are mixed — some report it can't yet access what they actually need, like bulk report pulls across many bank accounts. Sixty days in, treat it as promising, not proven.
- Partner Hub (from October) — portfolio-wide book health, job status and month-end readiness in one view, plus JAX chasing missing receipts for you. If it ships as described, this is the sleeper hit for practice managers. It's also a nudge into workflow-tool territory that Karbon and XPM users will want to watch.
- Payment Follow Ups / Bill Protection / Cash Flow Actions — the cash flow trio. Bill Protection (fraud-style checks on every bill before payment) is the one we'd most like to see ship fast; altered-bank-detail scams are a real and growing problem. All three are beta or coming soon. Verdict: good ideas, no dates, don't build a service line on them yet.
- Xero Corporation Tax (UK) — completes Xero's UK tax coverage. Big for UK firms, a shrug for everyone else. Beta now, general release expected within months.
- 5 million subscribers — a genuine milestone, twenty years after launching from New Zealand into a market that thought cloud accounting was a fad.
What London tells you about where Xero is heading
Strip out the product names and the thesis is simple: Xero wants JAX between you and every task in the ledger, wants Xero OS to be the platform other tools plug into, and wants to own workflows it previously left to app partners — document capture yesterday, practice workflow visibility in October, agent-building next. CEO Sukhinder Singh Cassidy pointed to a four-fold increase in API access since January as evidence that accountants are becoming builders; XeroForce is Xero making sure they build inside the fence.
The other thing London told us is what Xero didn't say: prices. A new premium tier, a native capture tool that replaces a paid app, and an AI suite that costs real money to run — none of it came with a rate card. Xero framed everything as "Accountable Intelligence", automation with human judgement kept in the loop. The practitioner reaction, if the comment sections are a fair sample, was blunter: several UK accountants said they'd trade the entire keynote for bank feeds that stay connected and a UI that stops changing overnight — and made the connection between AI investment and recent subscription increases without any help from us. After MYOB's Christmas price hike and everyone else's quiet ones, assume the agentic era arrives with an invoice attached.
Going to Denver? Waiting for the next Australian Xerocon?
Everything above gets its North American airing at Xerocon Denver, 19–20 August 2026 at the Colorado Convention Center — expect the same announcements with US availability dates, and likely firmer news on XeroForce's general availability. Our insider's guide to Denver covers the sessions, the expo triage and whether the trip is worth it.
Xero hasn't confirmed the next Australian Xerocon — the last one was Brisbane in 2025 — but on current form, expect anything announced in London to be live (or at least properly dated) in AU well before the next local lanyard. Our Xerocon hub tracks every edition, and we'll tell you when it's worth booking flights.
We sat through the agentic era so you don't have to. You're welcome.
