Ask The Firm

Ask the question you can’t ask your competitors

Send us a question about running your firm: pricing, staff, clients, systems, selling up. We put the good ones to practitioners who have dealt with it, and run their answers in the Friday issue, with their names on them.

How it works

  1. You send the question. Your name is optional, and we never publish your email.
  2. The newsletter desk picks questions other firms are likely to have too.
  3. A named practitioner answers it, and the answer runs in the Friday issue.
  4. If we use yours, we’ll let you know.

We run questions without your name unless you tell us otherwise. We can’t answer every one, and we don’t give tax or legal advice on individual client matters.

The kind of question that works

  • We’re moving individual returns to fixed fees. How do you handle the client whose return turns out to be twice the work?
  • At what size did you stop doing everything yourself, and what did you hand over first?
  • A client has connected their Xero file to an AI tool. What do we need to tell them, and what do we need in the engagement letter?

Other ways to contribute

Your question

Leave out client names and anything that identifies them.

Only so we can tell you if it runs. Never published.

Sending a question doesn’t subscribe you to anything. Privacy policy.
