What firms actually charge
Most firms set fees by guessing what the firm down the road charges. The Fee Index replaces the guess with a number: what firms of your size, in your region, charge for the same six services. Firms contribute anonymously, and we publish the medians twice a year.
Where the index is up to
Submissions are open, and nobody has contributed yet. Yours could be the first.
“Enough” has a fixed meaning: we only publish a median for a service, firm size and region once at least 10 firms in that group have contributed. Below that, a single firm’s fee could be worked out from the number, so it stays unpublished.
How it works
Six services
- Individual tax return (per return)
- BAS (per quarterly BAS)
- Company annual accounts (per set of accounts)
- Advisory retainer (per month)
- AML/CTF client onboarding (per new client)
- Payday Super setup (one-off, per client)
Grouped like with like
Every fee is grouped by firm size and region, and region sets the currency, so a two-person Brisbane practice is compared with its peers, not with a 50-person London firm.
Twice a year
Submissions count towards a January-to-June or July-to-December round. Each release reports medians only, never an individual fee.
What we keep, and what we don’t
With the fees we store your firm size, your region and the date. Not your name, your firm’s name, or anything else that ties the numbers back to you. The email box is optional and only there if you want the full cut sent to you; it is stored separately from the fees and never published.
